What is a Wayne Smith Medal?

The Friendship Force International Board of Directors created the Wayne Smith Medal to honor individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership in furthering the organization’s mission of fostering global friendship. Named after our founder Wayne Smith, who embodied optimism and commitment to world peace, the award reflects the values of mutual respect, cultural diversity, and humanitarian service that he championed.

The medal is awarded by local Friendship Force clubs, recognizing both internal club leaders and community members whose actions align with the organization’s vision. Each recipient’s honor includes a $500 donation to the Wayne Smith Medal Legacy Fund, supporting the expansion of FFI’s initiatives across its network of over 350 clubs worldwide. The award aims to inspire ongoing commitment to building understanding and connections among diverse populations.

The Wayne Smith Medal is a specially inscribed 2ΒΌ-inch medallion on a blue silken neck ribbon, accompanied by a letter of gratitude from FFI’s CEO and President, and a dedicated document recording the names of all recipients; the medal is awarded during a ceremony organized by the presenting club, which may involve media coverage.
