When is the best time to get trip insurance?

Each insurance policy is different but here are three things to consider when considering when to buy your insurance:
  1. Do you have pre-existing conditions? For most policies, there is a pre-existing waiver available if you purchase the policy within a certain window. For the FF Travel Protection Plan, there is a waiver of the pre-existing condition clause if you purchase your insurance within 15 days of your initial trip deposit. That means that if you had to cancel your travel plans due to a pre-existing medical condition, you would be covered if you have this waiver. Without it, your claim may not be covered.
  2. When does your payment become non-refundable? It is important to have coverage in place as soon as you make a payment that is non-refundable.
  3. Are you mainly interested in the medical coverage? If you aren’t concerned about cancellation costs or pre-existing conditions, you can purchase the FF Travel Protection Plan at any time up until the day before you depart for your trip.

With our policy, you can also add coverage as you go along. For example, if you pay a $500 non-refundable deposit but the rest isn’t due for several months, you can purchase a policy to cover the $500 deposit and then once you pay other costs, go back in and add coverage for the additional amounts. However, the medical coverage is set and cannot be increased. If you would feel more comfortable with a higher limit, you may want to shop for a policy on www.insuremytrip.com. That’s also where you can find annual policies since we don’t offer one. Be sure to find out what their pre-existing condition policies are and how they handle increasing coverage. Some policies will require you to purchase coverage for the whole trip at one time and the whole amount must be covered. That’s not the case with the FF Travel Protection Plan.

If you have pre-existing medical conditions and you want to purchase insurance trough the Friendship Force Travel Protection Plan, don’t wait until all payments for your trip have been made! Purchase insurance within 15 days of the initial trip deposit.

The pre-existing medical condition exclusion will be waived as long as the protection plan is purchased within 15 days of initial trip deposit.

TIP: You can always purchase additional coverage for your trip if your trip cost increases after your initial purchase of the FF Travel Protection Plan.
